Jade - BC's Hidden Jewel
What is Jade?
"Jade" is a cultural term used for a very durable material that has been fashioned into tools, sculptures, jewelry, gemstones, and other objects for over 5,000 years. It was first used to manufacture ax heads, weapons, and tools for scraping and hammering because of its toughness. [ Source geology.com/gemstones/jade/ ]
Rich in colour and in history, according to wikipedia, Jade was first identified in Canada by Chinese settlers in 1886 in British Columbia. At this time jade was considered worthless as they were searching for gold. Jade was not commercialized in Canada until the 1970s.
The appreciation and fascination with Jade has grown over the years and we love featuring it within many of our pieces.
